Well... long ago, I used to be an Excel wizard... VB script writer, complex formula writer, budget designer... blah, blah, blah... OpenOffice.org Calc meets my needs today, but Excel is damn good, though I don't own a recent version... I think I may have Office XP still, but not installed. I never cared for MS Word though. Always was a big fan of WordPerfect... But again, OpenOffice.org is no slouch and should work for most home users needs.

Take it with a grain of salt, but I have not had MS office installed on any of my PC's since about 2003 and I have had very few issues opening MS Office docs and if I did, the next release of OO took care of it. It's free, give it a try... just needs JRE (Java)

Interesting that when installed, Microsoft Windows Defender wants to phone home to tell Bill what I have just installed.
