Car Insurance Renewal time again
Well - as some of you might know my eldest (now 18) passed her driving test about 5 months ago and at that time sticking with our own insurance company was going to be the cheapest option. We are around £17 a month for both of us but to add our daughter it went up to £81 a month and her excess instead of £150 was to be £550
Well we got our renewal notice in and it has dropped to £68 a month, can't be bad you say in this day and age - but un-deterred I call them up and basically said I want your best price before I go searching myself as if I then come back later to cancel and you magically can match the other price I would be pi$$ed at having wasted my time......answer was this is our best deal.
I decided that I didn't want to find a meerkat
but cheap car insurance instead and found a much better quote. After calling the company direct and checking it was a good price (turned out the website does not ask enough questions) and having them raise the quote after changing some info (full business cover for Mrs Bubbles & I) it still works out nearly £40 a month less than our existing (soon to be dumped) insurer.
Into the bargain we have double the level of legal cover, 6 x the level of personal injury cover, slightly higher excess (£210 instead of £150) and our daughter also has £100 less of an excess to pay for in the event of an accident.
So all in all I have saved £38 a month but my part of the insurance has not come down
and when called to cancel the existing policy the insurer asked the reason why, got told price and just said fair enough.

Come on Alex, that's only half a story. Name some names!
I have been with the little red phone for ages now for both car and home and found them good when I have needed to claim. Had to go with the guy in chainmail for the bike though.

Well John.
We were with the dog that always says "oh yes" but now with the ones who have a bloke dressed like Nelson (admiral.com)
and like I said, I didn't want a meerkat so chose their sister site for cheap car insurance
I did try the little red phone but they wanted even more than the dog did

Re: Car Insurance Renewal time again
Had to renew the motorbike insurance again and because I am of a certain age I rang SAGA to see if they covered bikes as well as cars. Turns out they do not but they pointed me to Direct Quote, a firm I had never heard of. Well after doing the question and answer thing yet again they quoted more than the cheapest that I had already found. The guy asked me if I would consider going with them if he could beat it. He then came back and beat the lowest by £30, not bad when you consider the average quote was £150. So no guesses who I am now insured with.

Re: Car Insurance Renewal time again
After having dramas with our insurance broker(lack of communication after an accident...not my wifes fault and having to pay excess) and countless phone calls to the company ... no help. We nicely told them to get stuffed. Went with RACV for everything.
Cheaper, but also found out we were grossly under-insured for house and contents. Had a couple of small bingles since. Looked after us over the phone same day.. (Sunday as well). Very happy.

This time my car is leased so the insurance and servicing, tyres etc are already paid for so no need to shop around. I just got it so I will have to see about posting a picture. (Don't hold your breath waiting)

Re: Car Insurance Renewal time again
I wouldn't knock it back.
Better than mine that's for sure
It's a 1996 Ford Falcon Wagon. (4.1 LT - 6cyl)
Its saving graces are.... Dual fuel - LPG and Unleaded
5 speed manual - good economy and fun to drive.
Large cargo space - very handy for me.
Fuel prices here $1.20 per lt for unleaded petrol
$0.58 per lt for LPG
What is it where you guys are?

Not knowing the exchange rate between us, I'd say it's a fair bit more than ours.

I don't know about Sith but in NC we are paying around $2.82 USD per gallon for regular unleaded that is augmented with 10%ethanol in my area.

Unless I've got my sums wrong, that could be around 80 or 90 cents per litre Aus.
Sanshoe might be able to help out here.
Still a lot cheaper than us.

$2.82us = $3.43au>>>1Gallon =3.78litres...... divide 3.78 litres into $2.82 = 0.74c per litre au.
Now thats cheap petrol if my calculations are correct

I really do not know the exchange rates.. but i thought we were pretty expensive. It varies by region though and frankly with the big drilling rig disaster in the Gulf of Mexico I am surprised it isn't even more expensive.
