Will you get an SSD?

Post by Admin on Fri 30 Oct 2009 - 23:55

Hi Smile
Just wondering if anybody is tempted or already has gone with SSD.
For their storage purposes.

Hi all ,

I was seriously considering going to SSD drive and Windows7 prior to Xmas. But the more i look and research the more my current plans seemed to not fit. I was planning to buy a Samsung 64GB drive , 220 read , 200 write. But i would be unable to cut down my current OS installations to fit on a 64GB drive. I have currently 110GB of used space with the OS , so with all the info to mind I would need a 128GB or larger to make it a wise investment. So for now I am sticking with Vista64 and have ordered a Samsung F3 1TB drive to use as the primary OS drive replacing a 500GB Maxtor22DiamondMax. I should see a good 30mbs speed increase which is good for the low investment i think.

I am now prepared to wait until a reasonable amount of space is affordable on the SSD front.

There should be a place in the poll to put a tick against, WHAT IS A SSD DRIVE

Hugo

Here's a site which has some good info about storage (not just SSD)

http://www.storagesearch.com/ssd-storage-glossary.html

Of course if this poll had been created by Zebs there would have been the above option and others Laughing

Wow I only just got rid of my 5 1/4" floppies.

Actually its a lie, I still have some to go with my Beeb model B. First computer I ever owned (used the kids as an excuse to get one) and its hard to let it go.

I am still using a raid0 setup on my new system but the one difference is that it is comprised of 2 OCZ Vertex 60GB SSD's.

It is blazing fast as far as I am concerned.

Here is a shot using HD TUNE.

I plan on getting one soon. I almost pulled the trigger on one the other day but bought something else that I felt would be put to better use for now. I plan on moving my primary OS (Win 7) onto the SSD and that is about it.
