Corrupted data on USB stick

Hi guys,
Not sure where to put this one.
Both of my girls (the twins) had a lot of data on a USB stick - Word docs. They can't access.
One was a 20 page story. The other a fair whack of homework. Other info is accessable but we get a message their files are corrupted and can't be opened. No they didn't have any backup copies (they will from now on). They tried some software with no success.
Any ideas guys ?

I've never had the need, but My old buddy from cdrinfo (MP3Mogul) recommended this product some time back to someone on those forums:

BadCopy Pro

Easus has something as well.
