openSUSE 11.2
Hi
If you want to try Linux.
Do so know without changing anything on your PC.
Run live CD instead.
openSUSE provides 2 options.
Live GNOME.
Live KDE.
Personally I prefer KDE over GNOME.
If you like/prefer this type of OS.
Download & install the DVD version.
Though you can install from the Live CD's too.
http://www.opensuse.org/en/
Not only do you get an OS & Firefox browser.
But openoffice is there as well.
N.B. Other Linux is available...

I prefer Gnome over KDE... I guess KDE is better for those wanting a more Windows like experience.

Hi
I also ditch FF in favour of Opera.

But that doesn't have anything to do with Windows...

Hi
With openSUSE 11.2.64 bit.
It appears to be more ready to accept 64 bit additions/updates etc.
If you want to run 32 bit.
I didn't notice this aspect at all.
Yes, if wanting to "get away" from the "Windows" experience.
GNOME does take it one step further.

Hi
See here for KDE vs GNOME.

Many (like Sith Tracy I believe) use Ubuntu.
Here is a good article comparing KDE/GNOME using Ubutnu.

Yep, I use Ubuntu 64-bit and try other *nixes in VirtualBox. Ubuntu is a great distro. No other has given me a compelling reason to switch. FreeBSD is interesting though, but a little more advanced... fun to learn on in a VirtualBox.
