Ubuntu, probably the widest used Linux format.

Downloads cover both 32 & 64 bit.

Versions 8.4 LTS & 9.10.

(This default is the GNOME one. For KDE see kubuntu under derivatives.)

You can download various versions or derivatives as they are called.

Download & trial the Live CD's.
Once you are happy to move on, install from relevant CD.
