Just tested this.
It appears not to be working.

I obviously misunderstood the whole concept.
When you have this icon showing.
You get all that post quoted.
Including the quotes within.
When you click on that & get this .
This is in fact the multi -quote option.
The more posts that you do that to.
The more posts will be quoted.
Which makes sense.
Just wish I did.......
