Help my Broadband is broken
WTF - my broadband is broken.
about 3hrs ago I noticed timeout problems when browsing and eventually nothing worked. Noticed the router had no connection so tried all the usual of restarting, reseating cables etc. still nada
so it was onto the phone for 40 mins or so to someone on the other side of the globe who wanted me to do all that I had already tried and also wanted the computer rebooted (yeah right - pi$$ off I can see that the router has no ADSL link) - Told me there was no problems so they would have to escalate and it could take 48hrs
Luckily the Mobile stick that I got from BT is still active and upon checking the outage website it now says there is a problem affecting my std code area.
I still have my access so i'm alright for now

I just contacted my ISProvider...I can't update to ADSL2 because It's not availiable in my area...I'm living in the dark ages here..still downloading at 56kb/sec..talk about backwards.
Although I can get a faster speed, but It'll cost more

BT - was with them for a few years through work and never had any problems, but when we moved about 18months ago I had to stop the service as we were without a roof for 4 weeks and once we got into new house it took BT a month to get a phone line installed (not just us - all the neighbours were the same)
needless to say once the phone line went in it was nearly end of November and with the usual year end tightening of the purse strings my BB order got bounced so I had to bite the bullet and get it myself.
Might manage to get it transferred over to work at some point but can't complain too much as everyone in the house had free BB for a number of years before hand.

UGH!!!! I know that just sucks!!!! When I broke my laptop last december it was as if it was going to take an act of God to get them to give me the RMA number to get it fixed! I hate getting the run around on the phone! The guy i spoke to was all the way in Toronto back then.. i thought that was very ironic.. very funny... personal joke. Anyway, I do get teh whole half way around the world thing though!
Did you ever get your broadband access back online?

Yeah - it was working the following day although the download speed was initially slower than what Dial up used to be but be the following morning the speed had recovered to what it normally is.
Re: Help my Broadband is broken
Well after years of using BT as a provider I changed to Orange as it was considerably cheaper. Just got up and running and my download speed has gone from 4.5 to 9.5, upload speed has tripled. Well that's the good news. Unfortunately Orange does its best to stop you using anyone else's email such as Yahoo or Gmail etc. After much hair pulling( I'm bald now not grey) I got it all to work but am left with Outlook continually asking me to verify my password. Looked on web for a solution but it will take quite a bit of fixing I reckon.

Hey JayCee, glad to hear about the increase in upload and download times and the decrease in $.
As for outlook, it should be as simple as going to internet options / Accounts and choosing whichever accounts you have configured with the password and then hit save?
Unless I am missing something?
Good luck with it!

Apparently there is a known problem between Windows 7 and Outlook 2007 not remembering the passwords. The solution looks to be very tricky, tried one web forum "solution" but it didn't work so I am searching for another. Strange that it got worse after the switch over.

Sorry to hear that. I just installed 2007 on a friends laptop running Win7 Home about 3 weeks ago and he uses Outlook and has had no issue.
I hate office 2007 and reverted to 2003.
Hope ya get it figured out!
